ABOUT THE INSTITUTE

Instituted by the Government of India in the year 1963, the past four decades have seen the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade emerge as a powerful force instrumental in bringing professionalism to the country's foreign trade management. The Exim policies and the new Foreign Trade Policy have witnessed extensive contribution from the Institute.

Over the years, IIFT has developed substantial consulting capacity in analyzing international business situations and developing appropriate corporate strategies. It has emerged as an institution with proven ability to continuously upgrade its knowledge base with a view to service the requirements of the Government, trade and industry through both sponsored and non-sponsored research and consultancy assignments. This expertise directly reflects in the academic caliber of the Institute.

OBJECTIVES & ACTIVITIES
IIFT was set up with the following objectives:

  • Impart professional education in modern management techniques relevant to international business.
  • Enable the participants to appreciate the interrelationship between the diverse and complex tasks of international business.
  • Develop capacities among business executives for improved understanding of various trade and economic issues.
  • Conduct high quality research that addresses domestic as well as world trade and business issues. IIFT has, over the years, undertaken path breaking research studies with organizations like the WTO, World Bank, UNCTAD and the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. ABOUT THE INDIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT BANGALORE

The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) is one of India 's foremost institutions for management education. Established in the year 1973 to create management talent and ensure efficient use of the country's resources, the institute has grown over the last three decades to become one of the most reputed institutions for higher education in the country, even being the only Indian business school ranked among the top 100 business schools in the world by the Wall Street Journal. The post-graduate program at the IIMs in general, and at IIM Bangalore, in particular, is widely considered to be one of the toughest MBA programs to gain admission to. Close to 200000 people apply to the institute every year through the Common Admission Test, of whom only 250 are finally admitted.

The institute is managed by its board, which is currently chaired by Mr. Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of the Reliance group of industries and consists of a number of luminaries from academia and the industry, in addition to the director, Professor Prakash Apte, and a number of the senior faculty. Along with the flagship post-graduate program, the institute offers a number of other programs such as the program in software enterprise management, public policy and management and the fellow program. It has also established a number of international alliances, with the widest exchange program in the country. The partner universities for this program have included some of the best business schools in the world - such as the Graduate School of Business at University of Chicago , Anderson school of business at UCLA, Fuqua school at Duke University , Stern at NYU and INSEAD, Paris.

Faculty at IIM Bangalore are well-known across the country for their domain expertise and are drawn from a number of disciplines - cutting across operations, finance, marketing, strategy, technology, organizational behavior, quantitative methods, economics and the social sciences, contributing to the wide variety of courses available to students. In addition to academic rigor, students also run two of India 's largest inter-college events, ' Vista ', the business festival and 'Unmaad', the cultural event. Thousands of students from all over India participate in these festivals, and recent years have seen international participation as well.

ABOUT THE INSTITUTE

The Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, was established as the first national institute for Post-Graduate studies and Research in Management by the Government of India in November 1961 in collaboration with MIT Sloan School of Management, the Government of West Bengal, The Ford Foundation and Indian industry. During its initial years, several prominent faculty formed part of its nucleus, including Paul Samuelson, Jagdish Sheth and J. K. Sengupta.

ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES
The institute offers the following programmes of study:

STUDENT ACTIVITIES
At IIMC, while preparing for leadership in a competitive business environment, we understand the importance of confidence, creativity and nurturing talent. IIMC is well known for its cultural pursuits - the annual business festival Intaglio; the cultural fest Carpe Diem; music bands famously named after the public transport bus routes that 'connect IIMC to civilization' - Joka Bus Stand and 12-C.

Another unique initiative, the Adventure Club was started with the main objectives of promoting the Spirit of Adventure among Students, Enhancing Leadership Qualities and Developing a Love for Nature.

The Entrepreneurship Cell endeavors to foster the entrepreneurial spirit amongst the students and offers a series of programs to inspire, train, and coach a new generation of entrepreneurs.

INCA, or INitiative for Community Action, is a voluntary student body that works closely with NGOs on a national level. This is a social service that is voluntarily offered in the form of free management consultancy service to voluntary organizations and others doing useful social work.

STUDENT EXCHANGE PROGRAMME (STEP)
Keeping in mind today's dynamic global business environment, IIMC places a strong emphasis on international student exchange programs as a means to equip students with cross-cultural exposure and train them in global business ethics to complement their knowledge of the Indian business scenario. We actively seek to collaborate with the best business schools in the world. Some of our partner universities include Leipzig Graduate School of Business, European Business School (Germany); Institute de Empresa (Spain); International University of Japan, IUJ; University of California, Davis-Graduate School of Management; Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane.

PLACEMENTS
The traditionally strong recruiter perception of IIM Calcutta once again manifested itself in the stellar success of Final Placements 2005. The graduating batch size of 240, the largest across all premier business schools attracted the crème de la crème among firms in India and abroad as well as the most coveted jobs on offer. Top companies such as McKinsey and Co., The Boston Consulting Group, AT Kearney, Deutsche Bank, HSBC (IBA), UBS Investment Banking, Dresdner Investment Banking, IFC (World Bank), SUN Group, Temasek Holdings, Citibank, Morgan Stanley India, Mittal Steel, and many others made the highest number of offers across all business schools in India at IIM Calcutta, reaffirming its status as the most preferred campus for recruiters.
An astonishing 139 companies confirmed participation in Final Placements 2005 out of which only 78 companies could come and recruit with the other firms unable to recruit as the entire batch had already been placed.
As of 2005, forty batches have passed out of this unique campus, loved for its lakes and its emphasis on freedom of thought, and renowned for its quantitative bent of mind. Alumni are working in government, the corporate sector, academia or forging their own path.

The Welingkar Leadership Project seeks to empower such students and has enrolled two students in the academic Year 2005.At the student level, our Growel initiative seeks to make students more adept with soft-skills required in every office set-up.We have taken initiatives in extra curricular activities like ‘IMPACT 2007’ an Inter B-School Cricket Tournament and celebrating ‘Gokulasthami‘ where the students were trained to make human pyramid and break the ‘Dahi Handi’.
